The Care 4 All California initiative, a package of legislation announced Thursday by a coalition of over 50 health care, labor and progressive advocacy groups, could bring a variety of new regulation to the health care industry.

The goal of the effort is to increase access to health care and bring down costs for health plan premiums, prescription drugs and medical care, Anthony Wright, executive director of the advocacy group Health Access, said at a news conference. Other backers of Care 4 All include the labor union SEIU California, the Western Center on Law and Poverty and Planned Parenthood.
